Righteousness and Justice are the foundations of God’s throne!
And Jesus demonstrated this truth in his teachings and actions which where largely focussed on the marginalized of Jewish society at the time.
In Isaiah we see a glimpse of God’s heart as he pours it out to the prophet. In the very first chapter we find a extremely emotive message regarding the sins of the Judah.
Reading these verses from a church culture it probably comes as a shock to us that God’s anger is not against the bad church attendance or the couple who are still living together or the gay people in the church or the incorrect worship song that was sung or the preacher on tv with the “dodgy” theology.
No, what concerns God’s heart most is how we treat each other, especially those whom we easily forget, push aside or avoid.
learn to do good;
seek justice,
correct oppression;
bring justice to the fatherless,
plead the widow’s cause. (Isaiah 1:17 ESV)
We are a deeply religious people! In recent days i have been so powerfully aware again of the disgusting level of self-righteousness, religiousness and judgment that exists in the hearts of many of us who call ourselves Jesus followers.
It strikes me that Peter had no objection to Jesus’ rise to prominence and influence but when Jesus suggested that he would give up his life for those who are the least, Peter rebuked him.
Jesus replied: Get behind me Satan! Pretty powerful stuff. Besides his temptation in the wilderness this is the most prominent display of Satan’s attack on Jesus’ mission. And we find it manifesting in the self-righteous pride and self preservation of Peter who was a disciple and close friend of Jesus.
Where do I stand in regards to this? Am I in HIS way or am I HIS hands and feet?

Responding to questions around his resignation as Minister of Defence, Mr. Mosiuoa Lekota, had some wise words to share:
“Once the NEC endorses that judgement we are disqualified from sitting in any legislature or Parliament and representing people. If you are implicated like this, in something that is a crime, there is no way we can sit in the House in good faith when we have broken our oath of office.”
He said the NEC should have recalled “all of us”, adding: “There is no way in which the NEC could do that and not accept the consequences.”
“I don’t need Thabo Mbeki to think for me. I don’t need Jacob Zuma to think for me. How can I look people in the face [after this judgement and decision by the NEC]? This affects our families and the communities we live in. I can’t represent an organisation that has taken the decision that I broke my oath of office.”
Clearly he knows what a weighty issue this is that we are dealing with, if only the leaders of the ANC had the same integrity. Find the whole article here.

“we will crush anyone who tries to prevent Jacob Zuma from becoming the next president”
These are the words of the ANC Youth League.
